Best private-party vehicle acquisition software for dealers (2026)

Private-party acquisition software has gone from a novelty to a line item. Most used-car departments now run at least one tool that watches Facebook Marketplace and the other consumer marketplaces and pushes matching cars to a buyer. The category has also gotten crowded, and the vendors do not make it easy to compare them: some publish pricing, some quote it after a demo, and the contract terms range from cancel-any-month to fixed terms with a cancellation fee.

This is a roundup of the seven tools dealers ask us about most. Every competitor fact below comes from that vendor's own public website, checked in September 2026, and where the site does not say, we say "not published" rather than guess. We build one of these tools, so read the backlist.io section with that in mind; the rest is meant to be straight.

What to ask any vendor before you sign

The demos all look alike: a feed of cars, a filter panel, a message button. The differences show up in the questions the demo skips.

  • What is the contract length, and what happens if I want out? Ask for the term in months, whether it auto-renews, and the notice period. Get it in writing before the demo ends.
  • Which sources, itemised? "25+ sources" is not an answer. Ask for the list, then ask how cross-posted duplicates are handled so the same Camry does not show up four times.
  • How fast does a new listing show up? Minutes and hours are different products. The first dealer to call a well-priced private listing usually gets the car, so ask what the median delay is from post to alert, and whether speed is the same on every plan.
  • Is the pricing anchored to Manheim MMR? A "market value" can mean anything. If the number on the card is not tied to what the car would bring in the lane, your buyers will re-price every car by hand, which is where the time goes.
  • How are dealer-disguised listings filtered? A large share of "private" listings on Facebook are curbstoners and small lots. Ask what the classifier looks at, not just whether one exists.
  • Is outreach included, or a tier up? Several vendors put automated texting on a higher plan. Price the plan you would actually run.

The tools

1. backlist.io

Who it's for: independent stores and franchise used-car departments that want speed and a margin number on every car.

backlist.io watches six sources — Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Autotrader, Cars.com, eBay and OfferUp — and prices each new private-party listing within minutes of it going live. Every card carries a predicted wholesale value anchored to Manheim MMR, a predicted retail price and a deal grade, so a buyer sees the margin before sending the first message. Dealer-disguised and duplicate cross-posted listings are filtered out, and the team CRM with seller phone detection, SMS and email outreach is built in.

Pricing: Starter $775/mo covers Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Autotrader and Cars.com; Professional $1,450/mo adds eBay and OfferUp plus deal grades, SMS alerts and seller outreach. Both are month-to-month with no contract. Full detail on the pricing page.

2. VETTX

Who it's for: larger stores that want a sales-led rollout and are comfortable with a quoted price and a fixed term.

VETTX aggregates Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, AutoTrader and Cars.com plus inbound sources such as KBB ICO, ClearCar and Accutrade, centralises SMS, email and Messenger outreach through its Bridge Chrome extension, and reads licence plates into VINs with AI (per vettx.com, Sept 2026).

Pricing: not published — the site says pricing "depends on your market, its size, and health" and is quoted after a demo; dealers report quotes of about $3,000/mo. Contract: the term length is not published (dealer quotes describe a 12-month agreement); the cancellation policy says the agreement cannot be cancelled before the original term ends, early termination is charged for the remainder of the term, and end-of-term cancellation requires 30 days' written notice (per vettx.com/legal/cancellation-policy, Sept 2026). See our backlist.io vs VETTX page and the VETTX alternatives list.

3. Vehicle Acquisition Network (VAN)

Who it's for: groups that want coaching and reporting bundled in, or a done-for-you buyer.

VAN scans "25+ online marketplaces" with AI dealer and scam filtering, assigns a dedicated Acquisition Coach, includes vAuto integration and reports activity through VAN PACE. Automated outbound texting and follow-up sit on the Accelerate tier; Managed Buyer adds a full-time buyer (per buywithvan.com, Sept 2026).

Pricing: Professional $1,695/mo (3 users), Accelerate $2,495/mo (7 users), Managed Buyer $5,995/mo, varying by territory. Contract: billed "Monthly or Annual"; a minimum term is not published (per buywithvan.com/pricing, Sept 2026). See backlist.io vs VAN and the VAN alternatives list.

4. Swoopa

Who it's for: solo buyers and small lots that want inexpensive alerts and are happy to price cars themselves.

Swoopa is a marketplace-alerts app covering Facebook, Craigslist, OfferUp, Kijiji, Gumtree, Nextdoor and eBay, with AI valuations, an AI price filter, seller blocking and price-drop alerts on its top tier. Alert speed is sold by plan ("basic", "fast", "instant"), and Autotrader and Cars.com are not in its source list. Dealer plans are tailored on request (per getswoopa.com, Sept 2026).

Pricing: Go $28/mo on a 12-month term (Facebook only), Turbo $99/mo and Nitro $199/mo on 6-month terms, or $47, $144 and $352 per month with no commitment (per getswoopa.com/pricing, Sept 2026). See backlist.io vs Swoopa.

5. CARVID Acquire

Who it's for: dealers who want AI to run first contact on Facebook and are not sourcing from other marketplaces.

CARVID Acquire focuses exclusively on Facebook Marketplace. Its AI contacts matching sellers, handles the first conversation, negotiates inside the dealer's parameters, follows up for 60 days and delivers qualified leads to the dealer's CRM (per carvidapp.com/carvid-acquire, Sept 2026).

Pricing: Starter $599/mo (1 user), Pro $1,799/mo (up to 5 users). Contract: "No contracts. Month-to-month. Cancel anytime." (per carvidapp.com, Sept 2026).

6. AutoAcquireAI

Who it's for: stores that lead with instant cash offers and want marketplace sourcing as one module of a bigger acquisition suite.

AutoAcquireAI bundles an AI voice agent that calls and texts sellers, instant cash offers, remote inspections, a VRM dashboard and a Private Party Marketplace that aggregates Autotrader, CarGurus, Cars.com, Craigslist, eBay, Edmunds and Facebook (per autoacquireai.com/products, Sept 2026).

Pricing and contract: not published.

7. CarSnipe

Who it's for: individuals and flippers. It is on this list because dealers ask about it, not because it is built for a buying desk.

CarSnipe monitors Facebook Marketplace only and sends Telegram alerts, with a market-value estimate and description red flags on Pro. Its site describes it for individual buyers; there is no multi-user or CRM layer (per carsnipe.com, Sept 2026).

Pricing: Basic $9.99/mo (15-minute checks), Pro $24.99/mo (3-minute checks); monthly or annual, cancel anytime (per carsnipe.com, Sept 2026).

Where backlist.io sits

We built backlist.io around three things the category was slow on: speed (a listing is priced and alerted within minutes, not on the next batch), pricing you can act on (every car graded against Manheim MMR, not a generic "market value"), and terms you can leave (month-to-month, $775/mo Starter and $1,450/mo Professional, no contract). Six sources with dedupe and dealer filtering means a buyer works one feed instead of six tabs.

If you are weighing a specific vendor, the head-to-head pages go deeper: vs VETTX, vs VAN and vs Swoopa. Or book a demo and we will pull live listings in your radius, priced against MMR, so you can judge the feed on your own market.
